What is Botox?

Botox is a brand name and the first injectable bacterium toxin used for cosmetic treatments. A bacterium called Clostridium Botulinum produces botulinum toxin, which is a main ingredient of all Botox injections. The injections are used for reducing the appearance of wrinkles, but they can also be used as a treatment for certain medical conditions such as chronic migraines, excessive sweating, teeth grinding, overactive bladder, etc.

How does Botox work?

After a very small dosage of Botox is injected into your facial muscles, the muscles will temporarily become paralized and will not respond to the signals nerves send them. Since the muscles cannot contract, there will be fewer movements, which will soften and reduce wrinkles. The Botox injections will last between 3 and 6 months, depending on the individual

Is Botox safe?

Botox is a very reliable treatment with lots of pleased customers all over the world, so we can say that it is safe most of the time. Although it does consist of a bacterium toxin, a small dosage of it has proven to have more than a few benefits for the human body. The reason why we claim that Botox is relatively safe is that every single body is different and has different reactions to treatments, so NONE of the treatments, medicines, or methods can be proclaimed 100% safe for everybody. However, if you do not have any allergic reactions and choose a certified specialist to do your Botox treatment, you will be totally safe.

Botox Injections

Botox injections are in a literal way syringes of botulinum toxin which get injected into your facial muscles. Botox works by preventing a certain muscle from temporarily contracting in the future. Since the muscle is unable to contract, the wrinkles around the injected area will become smoother and less noticeable, giving you a younger appearance.

The price of the treatment depends on the number of units you need for it. The procedure lasts for about 10 minutes and it is completely non-surgical. There is no need for anesthesia and the only thing that might happen is feeling a small intensity of pain when getting the Botox injections.

Botox Costs

The full Botox treatment cost will depend on the quantity needed for your treatment and the price your doctor or cosmetician charges. Be aware that you will need a different amount of units for e.g. forehead lift and brow lift, therefore the cost will be different depending on the treatment you choose.

Which doctors can do Botox treatments?

Botox injections are supposed to be done by plastic surgeons, dermatologists, otolaryngologists, and ophthalmologists. Please do NOT let anyone other than a certified specialist inject anything into your skin.

Results of Botox Treatment

The results of Botox treatment usually last 3-4 months. However, if it is your first time getting Botox injections, the results might last shorter, around 2 months. If you are pleased and continue getting the Botox injections frequently, the results will most likely last longer each time and reach a period of 6 months. The first results will be visible shortly after the procedure is finished, and you can expect to see full results within a maximum of 2 weeks after the treatment.

Botox Wrinkle Treatments

Botox is most commonly used for treating facial wrinkles and the success rate is very high when it comes to this non-surgical procedure. Since wrinkles appear mostly due to contractions of facial musculature, Botox is just a perfect solution for the contra effect. Injections of botulinum toxin will cut the connection between the nerves and the overactive muscle, causing the inactivity of the muscle. Wrinkles around that muscle will soften and become less noticeable.

Frown Lines

Frown lines are frequent amongst people in their middle or late adulthood and they appear as a consequence of frowning. Although they do no damage to your health, they can change the appearance of your face quite a lot.

The procedure is done with a long thin needle and it lasts for 10 minutes or even less. The treatment of frown lines requests 10-12 Botox units per side, which makes a total of 24 units if you do both sides at the same time. For the cost, consider it per unit, plus the price your specialist charges for his own work, which varies. After treatment includes trying to frown in order to flex the muscles, not exposing the injected area to the sun, not laying down for about 2 hours after the procedure, and not massaging the face.

Forehead Wrinkles

Forehead wrinkles appear due to raising eyebrows and the body aging and losing elasticity. Genetics play a big role in getting forehead wrinkles, as well as some other factors, such as lifestyle and skin condition. Forehead wrinkles are actually one of the first wrinkles to appear on your face and even young people in their early adulthood start noticing them.

The units needed per forehead are about 20, plus you need to pay the charge for your specialist and his work. It will definitely pay off, considering the results will appear shortly after the procedure is done, and last for up to 6 months. The first time you get Botox injections they might last shorter, but the results will be visible for longer and longer each next time you get the injections.

Crow’s Feet

Crow’s feet, also known as the laugh lines, are wrinkles in the corner of the eye. Exposure to the sun is the main reason crow’s feet appear as people age because the natural reaction of the body is to protect the eyes from the sun, considering how sensitive eyes are when the sun is shining brightly. Smiling makes crow’s feet even more intensified. Also, one factor that increases the intensity of crow’s feet is smoking, since eyes cannot stand smoke getting into them.

The procedure is quite simple and lasts only 5-10 minutes. The amount of Botox units per side is 6-12, with varieties amongst individuals. The Botox gets injected into the area around your crow’s feet and starts showing results within a short period of time. The full results will be visible in a maximum of 2 weeks after the treatment.

Neck Lift – Nefertiti Lift®

Nefertiti lift, also known as a neck lift, is a special cosmetic procedure of the lower face, including the jaw and neck. Nefertiti was the ancient Egyptian queen who had a very long beautiful neck, so that is the reason the neck lift treatment is called Nefertiti lift.

This procedure is done with Botox injections and it targets the muscles from the bottom of the face to the collar bone. The injections prevent those muscles from contracting. The results include an even and symmetrical lower face, fewer lines, smoother folds, and a more defined jaw. In a short amount of time after getting the neck tightening injections, you will experience the beauty of this treatment and it will last for 3-6 months. You might need a little more units of Botox for the Nefertiti lift, considering it involves a big area of your face and neck, therefore the cost will depend on the number (30-40) and your specialist’s prices.

Jawline Slimming

A strong jawline is considered a beauty standard in both male and female worlds of beauty. Although it is very much influenced and predestined by genetics, it does not mean that there are no other ways of making your jawline strong and defined.

Jawline slimming with Botox is done by injecting units into the muscle called masseter, which is one of the muscles used for chewing. The masseter will become weaker due to the injection, which will also slim it, and create a more defined jawline. The procedure is short, solution temporary and if you like it, you can come back to your doctor anytime and repeat the procedure to achieve the wanted look again! The number of units needed is around 25.

Turkey Neck

Turkey neck is a loose, wrinkled, saggy skin on your neck, right below the chin. It appears as a consequence of chewing and aging, to be exact loss of collagen and elasticity in the skin. Neck muscles become weaker and the skin loosens more and more over time. One of the reasons for turkey neck might also be a drastic weight loss.

Botox is a method of treating turkey neck with a very high succession rate. Due to the procedure lasting only a few minutes, not needing an actual surgery, and being more affordable than plastic surgery, Botox is commonly used for reducing wrinkles on the neck area. Results will last 3-4 months on average and will be very noticeable.

Droopy Mouth Corners

Droopy mouth corners also happen as a consequence of aging, losing collagen, and having muscles unable to contract and relax properly. You can all probably picture a person who is feeling fine but looks frowning. The combination of frown lines and droopy mouth corners really makes it hard to believe that someone is happy, even if they say they are.

The procedure lasts literally 5 minutes, you need only 4-5 Botox units per side and there is no need for preparation or after treatment. Anesthesia is not required, but you could probably ask for one if you are extremely sensitive to pain, however, this is one of the least painful procedures and you probably will not even feel it.

Chin Lines and Dimples

Chin dimpling Botox is a solution to the chin lines and dimples in the chin, caused by an overactive muscle. Aging is often not our friend and nobody wants to have an orange peel skin texture. Although aging is irreversible, Botox is a reliable solution for dimpled chin and many other skin problems.

The procedure is short, simple, and painless. You will need 3-8 units of Botox for smoothing chin lines and dimples, while still saving a lot of money compared to doing a surgical procedure. You can schedule an appointment or visit your doctor on the fly if they are available since it literally lasts 5 minutes and you are free to go right after it is finished.

Micro-Botox®

Micro-Botox has the same base as regular Botox, which is a botulinum toxin. The main difference is that micro-botox is diluted and injected via micro droplets into the superficial part of the skin. It can be used for both the prevention and treatment of minor wrinkles and lines. Fine corrections such as making a chin more symmetrical are easier to make with micro-botox than with a regular one. Micro-Botox is often used to reduce sweating by closing the pores in the skin.

Botox for Tension, Headaches, Migraines, and Depression

Although Botox is made of a drug botulinum toxin, when used in very small quantities it can provide many benefits for humans and not only the wrinkle treatments! Botulinum toxin has been allowed for some other usages and people are very pleased with its results. Not only does Botox have positive effects on almost all skin problems, such as excessive sweating, the shots also help problems such as headaches, migraines, depression, and more.

Botox for Depression

Patients who had undergone Botox treatment for some kind of wrinkles have reported improvement in their mental health and depression. There is a hypothesis called facial feedback hypothesis, which states that facial expressions can affect the actual mood. The research is based on observing an experimental group, which received Botox as a treatment, and a control group of patients with depression, and the majority of the experimental group reported feeling better. On the other hand, antidepressants have a lot of side effects and risks and that is one of the main reasons why Botox is a better alternative for treating depression.

Botox for Headaches

Headaches are very common and can occur as a result of an allergy or an underlying health problem. If you find yourself suffering from headaches frequently, botox injections might solve the problem. Onabotulinumtoxin A, also known as Botox-A was approved in 2010 by the FDA for the treatment of chronic migraine in adults. In a study of adults with chronic headache problems, half of those who received their shots of botox reported that the number of days they experienced headaches each month was reduced by half. You should only get this type of treatment from a doctor trained to give these shots for treating headaches rather than cosmetic uses.

Botox Treatment for Chronic Migraines

Botox injections block neurotransmitters that send signals to your muscles to contract. As a result, botox eliminates the appearance of wrinkles. However, it also blocks the release of the chemicals from reaching the nerve endings around your head and neck and causing pain. If you have migraines for 15 days or more each month, your doctor may suggest Botox injections as a treatment. These injections are, however, administered in different areas of your face and neck than those in cosmetic treatment.

Botox for Teeth Grinding

Teeth grinding and jaw clenching are called bruxism. Some people get headaches and worsen the quality and shape of their teeth. Even if there were not any other symptoms than the action itself, bruxism is often caused consciously or unconsciously by depression and anxiety. The masseter muscle is one of the muscles used for chewing, but also the one that takes part in bruxism. Injected Botox into the masseter is an effective solution for weakening the muscle and reducing habitual teeth grinding and jaw clenching.

Face Slimming with Botox

Teeth grinding and jaw clenching can cause the masseter muscles to actually grow bigger and stronger, which will probably change the shape of your face. Some people naturally have a round or square face, which some might be dissatisfied with. Botox injections into the jaw will weaken the masseter and give your face a slimmer look. The procedure is short, painless, and effective after a day or two.

Botox Side Effects and Risks

Considering that Botox causes human muscles to stop contracting, there could be some side effects and risks, however, they are very rare and last shortly. There are small possibilities of having bruises, redness and swelling around the injected area, you could put some ice on it and it will pass within 2. You might have a headache right as a reaction of your body to the new substance, but as you keep getting injections frequently, the side effects will be less likely to happen.
