Before You Do Lip Augmentation, Do These 5 Things!

Before scheduling any cosmetic appointment, first, make sure you are ready for it in all aspects. There are many reasons you need to do the research first and inform yourself about the procedure you are aiming for. In this blog, we will cover all the things needed to do before deciding to do a lip augmentation, as well as some basic information about the procedure itself.

What is Lip Augmentation?

Lip augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that helps improve the volume, shape, and appearance of the lips. The lips have a huge role in the appearance of the chin, nose, and actually one’s whole face. Not only does lip augmentation give you thicker and plumper lips, it also helps reduce the lip lines and softens the whole lip area. With lip augmentation, you can achieve the look you want and improve all the characteristics of your lips. Although there are several methods of lip enhancement such as lip implants or fat injections, lip augmentation with dermal fillers happens to be the favorite option amongst clients over the years.

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

You have probably already heard about hyaluronic acid and its benefits, but if you have not, no worries! Here is an explanation for you!

Hyaluronic acid is a substance found in every single cell of a human body but mostly concentrated in skin, connective tissues, and eyes. It is naturally produced by our bodies in order to lubricate and moisturize the parts that need to be lubricated and moisturized. Due to our bodies getting older, the production of hyaluronic acid decreases over time and causes changes in the body. Those changes are most visible on our skin and hair. A huge number of cosmetic anti-aging products are based on hyaluronic acid. The injection of dermal fillers based on HA will stimulate the production of the acid in your body and improve your look. The hyaluronic acid fillers are used for many cosmetic procedures, such as lip augmentation, eyebrow lift, chin augmentation, nose correction, cheek lift, and many more.

5 Tips Before Doing Lip Augmentation:

1. Consult with your doctor and cosmetician

A consultation with a doctor is necessary! Every single body is different and reacts differently to certain treatments. First, you should have a conversation with a cosmetician you have picked for the procedure. Describe to them the results you want and they will give you honest feedback whether that is possible and suitable for your face and lips. You two will choose the exact filler and the quantity of it for the procedure. The next thing you need to do is visit your doctor and let them check the ingredients of the filler you have chosen. You definitely do not want to inject something in your body and cause an allergic reaction or have a seizure. You should do an allergy test and check your blood count, just in case you have some allergies or deficiencies you do not know about. Also, pregnant women and breastfeeding moms, as well as teenagers under the age of 18, should not get dermal filler injections in any part of their body.

2. Vitamin K

Vitamin K helps reduce the risk of bruising. Since the treatment includes an injection via a thin long needle or a cannula, the risk of bruising is always there. In order to reduce bruising as much as possible, eat green leafy vegetables two weeks prior to the treatment, such as spinach, kale, broccoli, brussel sprouts, beet greens, mustard greens, chard, etc. Even if bruising does happen, do not worry, it will go away in about a week.

3. Avoid certain medication and food

The blood-thinning medication increases the chances and the intensity of bruises. Two weeks prior to the treatment, you should avoid the following: aspirin, ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve, Ginkgo Biloba, vitamin E, green tea, fish oil, ginger, garlic. Vitamin E and its supplements increase bleeding, but also some other supplements you might consume could have a negative effect on your treatment.

4. Hydrate yourself

The preparation for the lip augmentation treatment includes drinking a lot of water. You might have noticed how dry your lips become if you do not consume enough water. The lip augmentation procedure will go a lot smoother if your lips are hydrated and healthy, rather than chapped and dry. Drinking enough water has so many important benefits for the body such as regulating body temperature, keeping organs functioning, delivering nutrients to cells, helping digestion, etc.

5. Avoid smoking and drinking

Smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol literally have no positive effects on any part of your body. This advice applies both short and long-term prior to your treatment. Speaking of short-term, avoid smoking and drinking a few days before your treatment, just so your body becomes a little healthier and accepts the treatment better. Speaking of the long term, quitting drinking and smoking will reduce the wrinkles on your skin, especially around your eyes and mouth, improve the condition of your lungs, heart, breathing process is better, every illness you have will last shorter and you will be free of these addictions.

The Procedure of Lip Augmentation with Dermal Fillers

The procedure is not surgical and it lasts about 15 minutes and there is no need for hospitalization or bringing someone to drive you home after it. The cosmetician will clean and sterilize your lip area and slowly inject the hyaluronic acid fillers with a syringe and a thin needle. They will make sure to equally inject the fillers in all parts of your lips and 15 minutes after, you will be done!

What Results to Expect

First, do not hesitate to tell your cosmetician what look you are aiming for. They will give their best to achieve the results you want. Some looks might require several procedures in order to achieve the lips you want. Do not be desperate when you first get home and look at yourself in the mirror, because your lips will probably look the same at that moment. Within the first two weeks, you will probably develop redness or bruises around your lips. You might even have a slightly increased body temperature or nausea. The lips will gradually become plumber and thicker and after two weeks, you will see the final result. The redness and bruises will be gone and your lips will be thicker and shaped the way you wanted.
