Thread Lifting Treatment with Silhouette Soft

Extra treatments

Silhouette soft is a short non-surgical procedure designed to treat the signs of aging and give you a refreshed appearance. It involves placement of threads under the skin that are pulled in order to achieve the desired effect.

Book appointment

The procedure takes no more than an hour and it is performed only once, since the subcutaneous threads are dissolvable and do not require removal. Although it can be done to eliminate eyebrow and cheek sagging, thread lift mainly focuses on midface, jowl and neck-lifting.

How does Silhouette soft work?

The procedure works by inserting fine needles and dissolvable threads into the fat layer of the skin. The threads are weaved 3 – 5 mm under the skin and are then pulled back to lift and smoothen the desired areas of your face. This helps reposition the fat pads that tend to drop downwards throughout time as a part of the aging process. The threads hold the skin in place long enough for your own tissues to maintain the lift. The threads then dissolve away, leaving you with natural-looking results.

Before the procedure (Preparations)

Although there are no universal rules before the procedure, professionals recommend you should avoid alcohol and cigarette consumption for at least one week prior to the procedure as well as other substances that might dehydrate your skin. Aspirin-based products should also be avoided as they can cause unnecessary bleeding which can lead to infection or other side effects. Have in mind that it is always better to consult your cosmetic surgeon to determine what works best for you and your skin.

During the procedure

At the start of the thread lift procedure, the places where the threads should be placed are marked out. Your doctor then administers an antiseptic and a local anaesthetic to the area. The small punctures are made on your skin through which the threads can be inserted. These threads are made of polypropylene and are often referred to as PDO threads. The procedure itself is often called a PDO thread lift. Once in place, the threads are pulled and placed in the optimal place to create the lift that you want. The ends of the threads are then trimmed and the threads are buried under your skin. Since they are dissolvable, they do not require later removal. The procedure is minimally invasive and you should be able to return to the work the following day.

After the procedure (Recovery)

The results can be seen immediately and the recovery period is significantly shorter compared to surgical operations. However, it is highly recommended not to use make-up or any face and skincare products for 24h – 48h after undergoing thread lifting. You should also let your face rest and limit facial motions for the first 24h after the treatment (avoid things such as drinking from a straw, kissing, smoking, making exaggerated facial expressions etc.). Avoid exercise and heavy physical activity for at least 7 days after the treatment, eat soft food and drink liquids for 7 – 10 days and avoid chewing gums as well as over-exposure to direct sunlight for 2 weeks. Pulling down your face or face massages should also be avoided for at least 3 weeks after the procedure. You can expect to return to your job from 1 day to 1 week depending on the type of work that you are doing. A job that requires more movement, activity and physical exertion would require more time off.

Side effects of thread lift

Although they are rare, side effects of thread lift usually occur in the first 24 – 48 hours after the procedure takes place and will often resolve quickly and by themselves. These include infection, inflammation (from the foreign body under the skin), bruising, numbness or slight asymmetry. In that case, your doctor may prescribe an antibiotic cream or another appropriate therapy. In case of pain or discomfort, you can take analgesics e.g. paracetamol. If the pain persists for more than 2 days, consult your doctor or surgeon.

FAQ

How does thread lift work?

Silhouette soft is made from biodegradable polyester sutures which after a while dissolve under your skin, helping it create new collagen and stimulate its production. It is a minimally invasive treatment performed at your doctor’s clinic with minimal downtime and recovery.

Is this treatment safe?

This treatment is completely safe. It is approved by the FDA for safety and efficiency. Hundreds of thousands of treatments have been performed and none has shown any signs of serious side effects or health risks.

How long does it last?

Some results of thread lift are visible immediately upon finishing the procedure. Complete results take up to 1-2 months to show up and last for about 8 – 12 months, depending on your age, skin type and other factors. Since the results are temporary, if you want to maintain the look achieved by this treatment, it is necessary to receive maintenance treatment every 6 – 12 months, depending on your age reversal needs.

What is the recovery period?

Since Silhouette soft is a non-surgical approach, the downtime for treatment is minimal. As every cosmetic procedure can cause bruising or swelling, it usually passes in 2 days if it occurs. You should, however, restrain from touching and moving your face excessively as well as avoid sleeping on one side of your face. Sleep on your back, face up, in an elevated position on pillows for at least a week. Full recovery usually occurs after 3 – 4 weeks.

When can I start working again?

Depending on your job, you can expect to return to your workplace within 1 – 7 days of your treatment. This varies from the type of work and the environment you are exposed to. Job requiring more physical activity and movement would require more time off. Same applies for exercising, you should not engage in any strenuous activity for at least one week after the treatment.

What are the potential risks?

Although rare, side effects that may occur after Silhouette Soft treatment are:

  • Bruising in the operated area
  • Infection / Inflammation of the tissue under the skin due to the foreign body
  • Feeling the threads under the skin
  • Slight face asymmetry
  • Uneven skin surface in the operated area
  • Prolonged pain in temples and cheeks
